HEALTH ALERT: Potomac Horse Fever

We have seen an increase in the number of cases of Potomac Horse Fever (PHF) this summer. The most alarming aspect is the severity of the disease; therefore we recommend PHF vaccine boosters for horses that were vaccinated 8 or more weeks ago. Horses not vaccinated for PHF will need a series of 2 shots, given 3 weeks apart

• Turn lights off in your barn at night to reduce insect exposure
• Remove any standing water near barn if possible
• Closely monitor horses for clinical signs
