Dr. Jennifer Safford, DVM

Dr. Safford hails from the Southern Tier region of New York State. Jen grew up having “backyard” horses, both at home and at her grandparents, and has been a horse lover ever since. She even took lessons one summer specifically to learn how to get on a horse without jumping on their backs from a picnic table. Until recently, Jen’s family trained and raced Standardbred racehorses. Although they currently do not actively train, she and her father still dabble in the breeding industry with their broodmare, Diva. Diva’s foals have done well as mature race horses and Dr. Safford enjoys hearing about their successes. Occasionally, she even gets to watch them race live and in-person. Jen is a third-generation veterinarian—her grandmother, grandfather, and father are all graduates of Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Jen continued the tradition and received her DVM from Cornell in 2006!

Jen’s husband, Adam, and their daughter, Kennedy, will occasionally ride along for calls, albeit usually on weekend emergency duty. Diva is nearby at a boarding facility. The family’s dogs, Kuma and Jolene, are home most days but both LOVE to go on road trips. When time allows, Jen and Adam enjoy riding their Harley-Davidsons, camping, sight-seeing, and spending time with family and friends; although these days, they are often hanging out and playing with Kennedy. You will see Jen mainly in Columbia and Rensselaer Counties in New York and Berkshire County in Massachusetts.
